Butcher Baker Grocer is a proud Redlands Coast collective

Founders Jeremy and Nicola acknowledge the Quandamooka people, Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

We’re all for giving back to our local community and making sure we’re acting responsibly when it comes to sustainability and reducing our collective carbon footprint.

Here’s what we’re doing and how you can be involved:

Containers for Change

We’re collecting your empty eligible containers and depositing them on your behalf to a recycling point. The funds are donated to Night Ninjas, a local not-for-profit organisation of around 40 dedicated volunteers focused on helping people experiencing homelessness and those who are living close to or below the poverty line.

Simply hand your empty containers to your delivery driver, or leave them at your front door (or where we’ve agreed to drop your order) on a day you've scheduled a delivery and we’ll take them with us. No need to book or let us know in advance.

Reduce and reuse packaging policy

Butcher Baker Grocer is committed to using sustainable packaging. Your goods are collected from our suppliers and packed into a reusable crate. They are transported to you in our refrigerated truck. If you’re home we’ll take the crates with us. If you’re out and about, we’ll place the goods in a cold pack and/or recyclable brown bags and let you know how to prepare the cold pack/s for collection the  next day.

Aluminium coffee pod recycling

We’ve teamed up with Nespresso to collect aluminium coffee pods on behalf of our community.

When you recycle coffee pods, the aluminium gets extracted and can be reused infinitely. Your spent capsules can be turned into: another capsule, a bicycle, a Swiss army knife, BBQ tongs, a vegetable peeler, or even a ladder. 75% of aluminium ever extracted from the earth is still being used in other forms. We want to see that figure go even higher.

If that's not enough, the coffee grounds are also recycled, going into compost and garden soil.

To participate, either bag or box your pods and hand to our delivery driver on the day of your next order. If you’re not going to be home, leave them at your front door (or wherever you’ve nominated that we leave your order) and we’ll take them with us. No need to book or let us know in advance.

Green delivery routes

Planning the fastest and/or shortest route from A through B to C in the most sustainable way. It just makes sense. Not only are we reducing the number of short trips made to the shops and home again by all of our customers, but our team also plans the most green route possible for each day, using route optimisation software.

ABeeC Hives

Our Australian native bees (like the stingless 'sugarbag' bees, Trigona carbonaria) are an important species for pollinating native plants, such as Grevillea and Lilli Pilli. ABeeC Hives, a Capalaba-based native beehive manufacturer, has a huge range – along with some other natural goodies. You can see their full range here. Butcher Baker Grocer customers can get a 10% discount site-wide by using the code BBG10.
