As Mum and Dad to two kids who hate being ‘dragged’ around the shops (do any kids like this?), we found ourselves defaulting to large food stores because of the convenience. We are proud Redlands Coast locals with a passion for great food, quality fresh produce and personalised service, so our values just didn’t align with this way of shopping. And with wonderful independent retailers on our doorstep, we started to wonder why shopping local needed to be so hard – what if our local stores could come to us?!

Our butcher (the infamous Danny Preston from Bay Gourmet Meats) validated that his customers love a good delivery, and explained it was something that was in demand during COVID lockdowns. So, creating a collective of like-minded businesses just seemed to make sense.

Over one (or more) glass(es) of something (sparkling water?) we identified that others must experience the same frustrations. So, Butcher Baker Grocer grew from a desire to make it easier for Redlands Coast residents, just like us, to shop independent and local.

I recognise that large chains and franchise stores aren’t going anywhere fast, but as a community with a great collective spirit, together we can create a new way of shopping that not only supports our small, local, independent food retailers - but also offers quality, convenience and taste... even environmental and nutritional benefits.

So shop local, shop independent, shop quality, shop with a conscience – and do it all with convenience at Butcher Baker Grocer– Yay!
